Press Release

Baltimore, MD (February 8, 2019)—Today, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07) issued the following statement on the legislation in the Maryland General Assembly that would grant Johns Hopkins University the authority to establish a police force:

“I have listened to my constituents in the Johns Hopkins community, including students, faculty, and staff and I support the bill in the Maryland General Assembly that would grant Johns Hopkins the authority to establish a small and accountable police force on their campus.  This police force must be made publicly accountable through multiple levels of community, state, and city oversight.  I am pleased that the proposed legislation contains funding to provide resources for our city’s youth.  As public safety is our top priority, support for these youth programs will help address the root causes of the crime that exists.”
