Press Release

Washington, D.C. (January 18, 2016) — Today, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD) issued the following statement honoring the legacy of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

“Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We look back at the man whose calling led him to tirelessly promote political, economic and social justice for all Americans.

“However, to truly honor Dr. King’s legacy, we must also look forward. We must dream of the world as it could be—fairer, more just and more equal—as Dr. King did.  We must also work every day to make that dream a reality.

“So on this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, I urge all my fellow Americans to take time to remember the great legacy of Dr. King, and to recommit ourselves to building a society that lives up to Dr. King’s dream for us all.”
