Cummings Recognizes Labor Day
Washington, D.C. (September 2, 2016)— Today, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD) issued the following statement in recognition of Labor Day:
“The hard-working men and women that make up our workforce are America’s greatest resource. Today, we celebrate them and the labor movement, which has fought tirelessly to protect the rights of American workers.
“If America is going to continue being a shining city upon a hill, we in Congress must work to provide our workers with more opportunity, not less. We must raise the federal minimum wage so no worker lives in poverty; we must guarantee that men and women are paid an equal wage for equal work; and we must ensure that the future of American workers is secure in retirement.
“America is already great, but if we invest in our workers, we can make it even greater.”
