Cummings Mourns the Loss of Senator Joseph Tydings
Baltimore, MD (October 9, 2018) – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07), today issued a statement following the passing of former United States Senator Joseph Tydings from Maryland.
“My heart is heavy today in learning of the passing of Senator Joseph Tydings. Joe was a true friend and mentor who impacted my life in countless ways,” Cummings observed. “Joe was a man who devoted his life in service to the nation and Maryland.”
“Joe’s service in the U.S. Senate, and his service to the community after he left the Senate in 1971, was marked by his fearless and tireless fight for our rights, the protection of animals, and the preservation of the environment,” continued Cummings. “Joe was a Marylander to his core and set an example for us all to follow. I will miss him greatly, and I send my condolences and sympathies to his family and friends.”
Senator Joseph Tydings passed away at age 90 on Monday.
