Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, DC – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement commemorating the 100th birthday of Rosa Parks:

“Today, I join many in pausing to acknowledge what would be the 100th birthday of civil rights leader Rosa Parks.  Ms. Parks’ act of quiet, civil disobedience nearly 60 years ago ignited a nationwide movement that changed the course of our country forever.

“My hope is that we will honor Ms. Parks’ birthday – and her legacy – by taking inventory of how infinitely blessed we each are.  Ms. Parks taught us all how to stand by remaining in her seat; and now we stand on her shoulders. For that we should all be grateful.”
