Washington, DC –  Tomorrow, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings will receive an award for his service as a paperboy for the Afro American Newspaper during the paper’s 120th Anniversary Celebration breakfast.  The Afro is the longest-running, African American family owned newspaper in the nation.

Congressman Cummings, who delivered papers from 1960 to 1964, will be one of many paperboys and girls recognized for their service to the paper.  The event is being held at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, where a pictorial exhibition commemorates the Afro’s anniversary through photos chronicling the role young people played in African American history.  Congressman Cummings will give brief remarks, as will Afro Newspaper Chairman, CEO and Publisher Jake Oliver, Jr.; Maryland Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown; and former Maryland Congressman and NAACP President Kweisi Mfume.
